The recent arrest of the CEO of Telegram is easy for some to ignore, especially if they don't use the app, but it's just one piece of a much larger attempt to control speech and information on the Internet.
Very well done, as usual, Sarah! This is a terrifying story and is not getting nearly as much attention in the US as it deserves, even from conservatives. If the deep state manages to install its hand-selected puppets into the White House in 2025, I fear similar things will soon be happening here -- in addition to the federal government's many unconstitutional activities already occurring. Elon Musk's businesses are already under heavy scrutiny by the feds. Our First Amendment rights are increasingly infringed upon and are now hanging by a thread.

This arrest is meant to send a message to anyone who dares to defy tyranny. In this day and age simply having an opinion born of your own rational thinking is an outright act of rebellion.
If you can actually think for yourself and use your own God given senses to discern truth you are a member of the Rebel Alliance. Viva la independent thoughts and thinking.
Though not a fan of Telegraph, I find it full of Scammers and not at all responsive to my complaints about specific accounts, I believe Free Speech is essential to a thriving society. Telegraph needs to be free to operate or not dependent only upon the desires of its users or, in my case, non-users.

People cheered when they tried to take down tiktok. A clause in that legislation allows the president to declare if a platform is a "threat" to the US. What could go wrong with that??

As a European it is terrifying to see how subjugated we are compared to America. The riots in Britain showed some frustrations but the British government cracking down on protesters so violently and quickly also shows how much the government can’t argue with public sentiment, so they resort to silencing the public. There are going to be civil wars within the next five years.
Deep State ownes virtually all the media outlets and has been transmitting Propaganda for decades. What they really dislike is freedom of speech and the truth escaping.
If they follow their own logic the should be prosecuting themselves and the arms industry for enabling Genocide to take place. Most will not be aware that is is a Criminal offence to fight or aid a war in a foreign country under International Law since 1928. Governments are just rank hypocrites.
There are issues all over this matter. To begin with, as somewhat of an aside, I actually like the stand Europe is taking against the monopoly powers of tech--essentially American. In our country we decry student loan write-downs while giving companies countless breaks in countless ways--when only one in ten even survives to five years. Educated people contribute to society in myriad ways for lifetime. So I like Europe not bowing down to tech or business in general. But, as Sarah says, Europe also is way ahead of America with regard to wrongly censoring and punishing "unapproved" speech. Another aspect of this, however, as we all know, is that, yes, in America tech companies are shielded, but that has allowed tech to censor also. This all is a very complicated situation that in the end will probably long term track Europe's take on monopolistic powers and America's leanings toward giving tech protections with regard to content posted, although something has to be done with, as Sarah again points out, the overwhelming power of tech to shape discourse and thus thought, with tech also overwhelmingly helmed by the left.
Need to outlaw crypto and cash because it's used on the black market. We can get a magnetic info bar stamp on our forehead or right hand so we can buy and sell.
